Frequently Asked Questions
Interlibrary Loan is a courtesy service provided by many libraries allowing patrons
to order and receive materials from other libraries.
Interlibrary loan (ILL) lets LBCC students, faculty, and staff obtain materials that
are not available in the LBCC Library. The Library requests them for you from another
library. Please limit your requests to five a week and do check your local library
catalog before requesting ILLs. [NOTE: Interlibrary loan services are available only
during academic terms and limited to current LBCC students, faculty, and staff.]
Current LBCC students, faculty, and staff may use the library's Interlibrary Loan service.
Requests generally take 1-2 weeks to complete. It may take a week or more to fill requests for whole books. You will be contacted by email, phone, and/or mail.
The LBCC Library will place requests for all types of library materials. The following types of materials, however, may be difficult for the library to obtain: textbooks, CDs/DVDs/VHS, dissertations, rare books.
The checkout duration is set by the lending library, so it will vary. Two weeks is
a common loan period for interlibrary loan items. LBCC Library staff will inform you
of the return date when you pick up materials. Ask library staff if renewal is possible.
Distance Students
Distance learning students may request that items be mailed to them if they are unable to come to the Library. [Those requesting mail service become responsible for the cost of any borrowed items and are also responsible for the return postage.
