Complaint Process (Filing a complaint against the college for not following policy and procedures)

Students should review the Student Rights and Responsibilities policy for guidance on community standards. Students may also review all LBCC Board Policies and Administrative Rules to help understanding LBCC rules and expectations.

If a student believes that someone has violated a right or an LBCC policy or rule, the student should first seek to resolve the situation through mutual conversation in a safe location and manner. If resolution cannot be safely attempted or is unsuccessful, a student should report violations of policies, rules, rights and responsibilities through the LBCC Complaint process. All complaints will be appropriately investigated and addressed.

To file a complaint:  When you file a complaint, you will be asked to identify if you are filing a complaint against a student, an individual employee or against LBCC/the College itself for violating a rule or right.

Once you have exhausted all of the college's steps in their grievance process, please contact Higher Education Coordinating Commission, at 503-947-2430 to discuss other options.  For more information, see HECC.

If the complaint is regarding alleged illegal discrimination, a grievant may, after exhausting grievance procedures at the Community College level, or 90 days if no final decision has been made by the Community College, appeal in writing to the Director of the Higher Education Coordinating Commission office of Community Colleges and Workforce Development. See above HECC link for more information. See also OAR 715-011-0005.

Linn-Benton Community College is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). Information regarding their complaint process can be found on the NWCCU website.

If you reside outside of Oregon, you can file a complaint with the appropriate agency in your state. Linn-Benton Community College is required to provide prospective and current students with contact information for filing complaints with the appropriate agency in the state where the student resides.
