Phlebotomy
Program Details
LBCC offers two phlebotomy programs yearly, one during fall term and one during spring term. It runs for 15 weeks total and is divided into two sections:
- A ten-week classroom and learning portion
- A five-week clinical and on-the-job training portion, in which you will be able to work in a clinic or doctor's office stationed in the Willamette Valley.
There are a total of 20 spots available for each term the program is offered. Accepted students move through the training together as a cohort.
A laptop or tablet is critical for success in this program.
Experience
The Phlebotomy program offers a comprehensive 150-hour total clinical practicum experience as part of the curriculum. This clinical experience takes place during the last five weeks of the program.
During these five weeks, students have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week at a clinical site where they have been placed. These sites are phlebotomy clinics located throughout the Willamette Valley, not only in the Lebanon/Corvallis/Albany area, but also in Salem, Eugene, and beyond.
In their clinical experience, students receive a hands-on look at what it means to work as a phlebotomist, putting what they have just learned in the classroom to work. Students receive mentoring from medical staff and management, gaining experience in many different aspects of the phlebotomy career pathway. Many students use this clinical placement as a means to begin networking with the pharmacy community.
Students must have completed and passed all classes with a C average or better before they are cleared to begin their clinical experience.
Schedule
Classes take place between 8 am and 6 pm Monday through Thursday. Both sessions of the Phlebotomy program are based out of LBCC's Healthcare Occupations Center in Lebanon, Oregon. Students can expect this program to be a 30 to 40 hour per week commitment while classes and clinicals are going. As such, any student going through this program should treat it as a full-time commitment.
A full program calendar of all scheduled classes is readily available to accepted students. Students must be accepted into the program in order to be registered for classes.
