Linn-Benton Community College celebrated scholarship recipients and college donors
at the annual Foundation Honors Reception held Tuesday, November 6 in the Commons.
Students shared incredible heart-felt stories about how their lives were changed by
LBCC, and donors expressed joy at and continued commitment to making our communities
better places to live and work.
LBCC student Shelby Pick received the Joseph Novak Memorial Scholarship. Shelby is
earning two associate degrees, one in Business, and one in Early Childhood Education,
and serves as LBCC student body president. Shelby spoke of her dream to open a network
of early education centers across rural Oregon, in places that have little or no support
of that kind.
"This scholarship meant the difference between being able to continue my educational
goals and dropping out. Without it, the fear of not being able to cover my bills was
a constant issue. The Novak Scholarship is more than just a scholarship for myself,
it is a life-long connection to a beautiful and kind family. I will be forever grateful," she
said.
Criminal Justice student Leanna Dunbar received the Barbara Emily Knudson Scholarship.
As a single mom of two, Leanna says she never imagined she would go to college. “This
scholarship means so much to me, to my future, and to my children’s future. I didn’t
really like high school. Now, I love doing my homework. I’ve found my path and know
what I really want to do with my life,” she said.
Some students spoke of how Foundation scholarships allowed them work fewer hours,
which gives them more time to focus on their college education.
Our students in need appreciate every dollar they receive. Donations to the LBCC Foundation
make a huge difference in the lives of our students – whether it’s funding scholarships,
purchasing needed career technical teaching equipment, enhancing teaching resources,
or simply offering general support to our institution. Donor generosity has a tremendous
impact.
You can help “lift” our students to new heights to achieve their educational dreams.
Please contact the LBCC Foundation and let us help you connect to philanthropy that
lifts up our entire community.
Through the power of education, our students can achieve their dreams for the future
– not just for themselves, but for their families and their community.
