TITLE: HEALTH INSURANCE
PURPOSE
To define the administrative terms and conditions related to participation in the
college’s various health related insurance plans.
STATEMENT
BARGAINING UNIT EMPLOYEES
Employee health insurance for employees subject to collective bargaining agreements
shall be governed by the respective agreements; failing such provisions, board policies
and administrative rules shall apply.
MANAGEMENT, EXEMPT, AND CONFIDENTIAL EMPLOYEES
All contracted management, exempt, and confidential employees are required to enroll
in the following insurance programs: medical, dental, vision, basic life, accidental
death, and long-term disability. Employees may opt-out of medical, dental & vision
coverage only if they are covered on another employer-sponsored group health insurance
plan or when they work an FTE load of .50 or less. Dependent coverage for medical,
dental, and vision insurance is optional. The college provides a mix of optional employee
and dependent benefits in which employees may elect to participate at their own cost
through payroll deduction. This mix of supplementary benefits is subject to change
on an annual basis.
EFFECTIVE DATES
Insurance coverage for any contracted employee hired between the first and 15th day
of the month will be effective on the first of the following month. Coverage for employees
hired on or after the 16th day of the month, will be effective on the first day of
the second full calendar month after hire.
TERMINATION DATE
Insurances will cease, for both the employee and enrolled dependents, on the last
day of the month in which the employee's separation from the college occurs.
PART-TIME EMPLOYEES
The college shall observe all federal and/or state statutes regarding eligibility
thresholds for part-time employee participation in group health benefits.
